FOOD SERVICE:

March is almost here!!! With our mild rainy weather, there are definite signs of spring popping up everywhere. We just need a lot more sunshine for those tulips & daffodils to “spring” into action!

February was busy for special events. Valentine’s Day was celebrated with a special dinner, featuring Salmon fillet with Dill sauce and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Two days later we celebrated Chinese New Year with a special meal, featuring Sweet & Sour Pork, with mandarins and fortune cookies for dessert. Both events were much enjoyed by all accounts.

Of course, we’ll also be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a traditional Irish meal on Saturday, March 17th.

We would like to remind everyone that we have microwaves in all Resident lounge areas in the Manor, plus a microwave in the Lodge dining room servery area, which family members may use for reheating special food items brought in from home. Unfortunately, for Food Safety concerns, our staff are not permitted to reheat food brought in by family members.

HOUSEKEEPING/LAUNDRY:

We are striving to ensure that all Resident clothing items get labeled. Family & friends can help by ensuring that all new clothing items are sent to the laundry for labeling before they are worn. Just ask any staff member for assistance.

Dentist Services

We are sorry to inform you that Dr. Jimmy Chan has resigned as the resident dentist here at Lynn Valley Care Centre effective February 7th, 2018. We are currently in the process of making arrangements for a replacement for him.

In the meantime, if a resident needs urgent dental care, families will need to make arrangements with a dentist in the community. Dr. Chan is still able to see patients in his office at Lynn Valley Mall.

Dr. Chan has been with us for the past 6 years and will be missed!

New Pharmacy Services

As we mentioned last month, we will have a new pharmacy service, Medical Pharmacies Group Ltd. (MPGL), starting March 1, 2018.

All POAs should have received a “welcome package” from MPGL before the end of February. If you have any questions about completing the forms or have not yet received your copy, please call the reception desk at 604-982-3719.

We would like to thank Carol Evens and all the pharmacists at Langley Gardens Pharmasave for their 3 years of service to Lynn Valley Care Centre.

Infection Control

Yes, it’s still winter and this is still flu season.  We know that there are many flu outbreaks occurring in the community and we thank you for staying at home when you are not well.

Please remember to not visit if you have a fever, cough, diarrhea, nausea, and/or vomiting or are feeling unwell in general.

Please pick up a copy of the pamphlet “Infection Control Information for Visitors”. The pamphlets are found in the reception area as well as at all Nursing stations.

Remember that hand washing is our best defence against germs. Soap and water is always best but hand sanitizers work well in a pinch. If the hand sanitizer is empty, please let a staff person know.

Thank you for participating in our Infection Control program.

Support Services

We are happy to announce that Carecorp Seniors Services (Carecorp) has been awarded the contract for the support services for Lynn Valley Care Centre. Carecorp was founded in 2010 and has been in the business of providing services to Residential Care facilities in British Columbia for the past 8 years.

All Lynn Valley Care Centre staff who applied to Carecorp for a position have been offered a job. The company will take over the dietary, activity and maintenance services on April 1, 2018.

Retirement Tea for Leslie Cymet

Come join us on Wednesday, February 28th to say farewell to Leslie Cymet who has been our Director of Care here at Lynn Valley Care Centre for the past 13 years!! She has big shoes to fill and we are all going to miss her. But, she has promised to pop in once in a while to say “Hi” when she’s not hiking the English countryside!
