Accreditation Information from The Leadership Team
Greetings to Residents, Families and Staff,
Where does the time go? Our last accreditation was in 2015 and we are due for our fifth accreditation cycle this year. Lynn Valley Care Centre will host two Accreditation Canada surveyors from October 15 – 18, 2019. Lynn Valley Care Centre is committed to the delivery of quality and safe care to all residents through continuous improvement and strong community partnerships.
What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a continually evolving process, which enables us to evaluate and improve the quality of our services through peer review and self-assessment. It accurately assesses how our services meet national standards of care and quality. Accreditation Canada has deemed that in order to have quality care, you must have safe care. Lynn Valley Care Centre has been successfully accredited in 2009, 2011 and 2015. In 2019, LVCC will once again be undergoing the accreditation process.
Why Participate in Accreditation?
Accreditation is one of the ways in which LVCC publicly demonstrates accountability and our ongoing commitment to quality improvement to our residents and community.
Benefits of Accreditation:
⦁ Educational process that benefits residents, families, staff and community
⦁ Obtains valuable advice from Accreditation surveyors
⦁ Improves communication and collaboration within the organization
⦁ It increases our credibility with residents, families, communities, funding sources and partners
⦁ Helps demonstrate accountability
Preparing for Accreditation
In preparation for the accreditation survey, we have completed self assessments, identified areas for improvement and established action plans to achieve better results. Some plans have been implemented; others are being finalized. LVCC is taking a thorough approach to any changes prior to implementing them. These changes may take time.
Over the next couple weeks, we will be running mock survey exercises with our staff to provide them with a chance to understand the types of questions they may be asked.
The leadership team has been meeting weekly to discuss the process of accreditation. We will give notice to visitors, residents, families and staff of when surveyors will be visiting.
Accreditation starts on October 15, 2019 and we are excited to welcome our surveyors: Linda Hanford and Susan Veenstra for this survey cycle. Linda and Susan will be with us till October 18, 2019.
These days will be packed with activities with onsite visits and meeting residents, families and community members. Lynn Valley Care Centre is eager to showcase how we have grown as an organization.
NURSING DEPARTMENT
Infection Control
It’s hard to believe, but we are coming up to flu season again. Please do not visit if you’re not feeling well. Our flu vaccines are expected to arrive in the first 2 weeks of October. Families are welcome to get their flu vaccines at LVCC along with residents and staff. We encourage all regular visitors to have a flu shot once they become available.
Please wash your hands when entering and exiting Lynn Valley Care Centre. Hand washing is one of the most effective ways we have of preventing the spread of infection. Hand sanitizing stations are located near all entrances and throughout the facility. Please let a staff member know immediately if you find the hand sanitizer container empty.
Thank you for participating in Lynn Valley Care Centre’s infection control program.
